Nature and Responsibility

Þingeyjarsveit is home to some of Iceland’s most unique natural environments. Protecting and respecting nature is a shared responsibility. Many foreign residents work closely with nature through tourism and land-based industries. Your knowledge and daily experience are essential in shaping sustainable policies.

We believe that Þingeyjarsveit should be an inclusive community where everyone, regardless of background, can live, work and thrive. International residents are an important part of our society, our workforce and our future.

Our goals:
 

• Ensure equal access to services, information and opportunities

• Support integration while respecting cultural diversity

• Strengthen participation of international residents in community life
   

Key actions:
 

• Establish a Multicultural Council (New Residents Council) to give international residents a formal voice in local decision-making

• Support Icelandic language learning opportunities in cooperation with educational institutions and employers

• Encourage community events and meeting places that bring people together across cultures

• Work with local employers to support onboarding and integration of foreign staff

• Ensure access to leisure activities, sports and social life for all age groups
